A fatal road accident in Una district claimed the lives of two individuals after a speeding car veered off the road, plunged into a deep gorge, and caught fire. The incident occurred along the Bharwain–Hoshiarpur road, a stretch known for its sharp bends and steep downhill gradient, making it particularly vulnerable to high-speed accidents.
According to preliminary findings, a loud explosion-like sound was heard moments before the crash, leading investigators to suspect a tyre burst as the likely trigger. It is believed that the sudden failure caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, a Maruti Swift, which then swerved off the road and fell into the gorge. Soon after the fall, the vehicle caught fire, intensifying the severity of the accident.
Emergency response teams, including police and fire services, rushed to the scene but found the car completely engulfed in flames by the time they arrived. After extinguishing the fire, authorities recovered two bodies—one from outside the vehicle and the other from inside the charred remains. The condition of the vehicle indicated that the fire had caused extensive damage, complicating identification efforts.
CCTV footage from the area has also surfaced, showing a black car moving at high speed before suddenly losing control. The footage captures the vehicle veering off near an under-construction structure and plunging into the gorge, supporting the theory of a sudden mechanical failure or loss of control.
Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact sequence of events. The vehicle, bearing registration number PB-10-K-7531, is registered in Ludhiana. An Aadhaar card recovered from the wreckage indicates an address in Tajpur Road, Ludhiana, but the identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed.
Initial information suggests that the victims had visited the Mata Chintpurni Temple for darshan and were on their return journey when the accident occurred. Authorities are continuing efforts to confirm their identities and notify their families while further examining technical and environmental factors that may have contributed to the crash.
