A Delhi judge was discovered dead at home; his family says he got into a fight with his wife and sobbed

A young judicial officer’s death in New Delhi has prompted a detailed investigation after he was found unresponsive inside a locked bathroom at his residence in the Green Park area, with initial police findings pointing toward a suspected case of suicide, though authorities say all possibilities remain under examination.

The deceased, Aman Kumar Sharma, aged 30, was serving as Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority in the North-East district at Karkardooma Court. His posting and role were confirmed by members of the local bar association, highlighting that he was an active judicial officer handling both civil and criminal matters in recent years.

The sequence of events began when a call was received by the Delhi Police at the Safdarjung Enclave police station around mid-afternoon. The call, made by a family member, reported that Sharma had allegedly taken his own life inside the bathroom of his home. Police personnel arrived at the residence shortly afterward and found him inside the locked space. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Preliminary observations suggest that the death may have occurred by hanging, as he was reportedly found suspended using a piece of cloth. Investigators stated that, at this stage, there are no visible signs of external injury or forced entry that would indicate foul play, though they have not ruled out any angle and are continuing to gather evidence.

Statements from family members have added complexity to the case. According to relatives citing his father, Sharma had expressed distress during a late-night phone call, saying he was struggling emotionally and finding it difficult to cope. His father reportedly travelled overnight from Alwar to reach Delhi after receiving the call. The family has alleged that he had been facing personal difficulties within his household for the past two months, including claims of mental stress linked to domestic issues.

Accounts from relatives further suggest that there had been an argument inside the house shortly before the incident, with Sharma and his wife in separate rooms. It was only later, when he could not be located, that his phone was called and its ringtone was heard from inside the bathroom. Access was eventually gained by breaking open part of the structure, after which he was discovered inside.

Sharma had joined the Delhi Judicial Service in June 2021 after completing his legal education at Symbiosis Law School in Pune. Over the past few years, he had built a career in the judiciary and was serving in a key administrative role at the time of his death.

Police have sent the body for postmortem examination and are currently recording statements from family members, colleagues, and other individuals connected to the case to establish a clearer timeline of events. Officials have indicated that while initial indications point toward suicide, the underlying circumstances and contributing factors are still being examined as part of an ongoing inquiry.
