A 30-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Telangana, with her family accusing her husband of murdering her to claim insurance money after allegedly subjecting her to years of domestic abuse, harassment, and violence.
The deceased woman was identified as Guguloth Meenakshi. According to family members, Meenakshi had married her husband Shivaji approximately 12 years ago after the two reportedly fell in love. The couple later had two sons together.
However, relatives alleged that the marriage gradually became deeply abusive over the years. According to the family, Shivaji frequently subjected Meenakshi to both physical assault and mental harassment, causing prolonged distress and suffering throughout their married life.
Police officials investigating the case stated that multiple injury marks were discovered on Meenakshi’s body, immediately raising suspicion regarding the circumstances surrounding her death. Investigators are currently examining whether the incident was actually a suicide or whether the scene may have been deliberately staged to conceal a murder.
In the complaint submitted to the police, Meenakshi’s relatives accused Shivaji of repeatedly torturing her physically and emotionally over a long period of time. Family members alleged that despite several attempts at reconciliation and intervention by elders, the abuse never truly stopped.
According to the allegations made by the victim’s family, Shivaji had been facing serious financial difficulties, including mounting debts and a substantial housing loan burden. Relatives claimed that he had been eyeing the insurance money linked to Meenakshi’s name and suspected that financial motives may have played a role in her death.
The family strongly denied the possibility of suicide and alleged that Meenakshi’s death was instead a planned and intentional murder carried out for insurance benefits.
Public outrage surrounding the case intensified further after a video clip allegedly showing Shivaji assaulting Meenakshi surfaced on social media only hours after news of her death emerged. The video reportedly drew widespread anger online and renewed focus on allegations of long-term domestic violence within the household.
According to police sources, the video had allegedly been recorded earlier by one of Meenakshi’s relatives. However, it was reportedly not released publicly at that time because family elders intervened and brokered a compromise between the couple in an attempt to resolve the matter privately.
Family members claimed that after the earlier incident, Shivaji had assured relatives that he would stop physically assaulting Meenakshi and improve his behaviour. Despite those promises, they alleged that the harassment and abuse continued even afterward.
Speaking to reporters, V Srinivas confirmed that Shivaji had been taken in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The police inspector stated that Shivaji had definitely assaulted Meenakshi and said investigators were currently waiting for the post-mortem examination report before deciding whether to formally treat the case as murder instead of suicide.
According to the inspector, police would alter the First Information Report (FIR) accordingly if medical findings and evidence established that the death was the result of homicide.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident, and further investigation into the suspicious death is currently underway.
