Ajay Rai, the head of the UP Congress, was admitted to the hospital after passing out at home in Lucknow

Ajay Rai was hospitalised in Lucknow after he fainted and his health suddenly deteriorated during the day, according to party officials. The incident occurred while he was attending a party-related programme, where he reportedly began experiencing severe uneasiness, discomfort, and physical distress before losing consciousness.

He was immediately taken to a hospital and admitted to the emergency ward, where doctors initiated treatment and began monitoring his condition. The Indian National Congress unit in Uttar Pradesh later clarified that the episode was likely caused by low sodium levels, which led to the sudden collapse. Medical teams are currently conducting tests and keeping him under close observation to assess his recovery.

Doctors attending to him have stated that he remains under supervision in the emergency unit, with his condition being continuously evaluated. No further complications have been officially reported so far, though hospital authorities are expected to provide updates based on ongoing assessments.

Ajay Rai is a prominent political leader from eastern Uttar Pradesh and has previously served as a legislator from Varanasi. He joined the Congress in 2016 after leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party and has since emerged as a key figure in the party’s efforts to rebuild its presence in the state. In 2023, he was appointed as the state Congress president, taking on a leadership role during a period of organisational restructuring and political revival efforts.
