Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday strongly criticised the BJP-led Delhi government over what he described as worsening civic conditions, poor sanitation management, and administrative failure in the national capital. The former Chief Minister accused the ruling BJP administration of allowing garbage accumulation, overflowing drains, and unhygienic surroundings to spread across several parts of Delhi within just one year of governance.
Kejriwal made the remarks while sharing a video posted from the official X account of the Aam Aadmi Party. The video allegedly showed a massive pile of garbage dumped behind Ambedkar Nagar Hospital in Delhi. Referring to the visuals, Kejriwal questioned whether the national capital of the country should be allowed to deteriorate into such a condition. He stated that people from across India and foreign countries visit Delhi regularly, and scenes of overflowing garbage and civic neglect damage the image of both the city and the country.
In his social media post, Kejriwal alleged that roadsides across the city were filled with filth while drains and sewer systems were overflowing in residential lanes. He further claimed that heaps of garbage were being allowed to accumulate outside sensitive public spaces such as hospitals and schools. According to him, if the BJP government could allegedly reduce Delhi to such conditions within one year, the situation could become significantly worse over a full five-year term.
The Aam Aadmi Party also intensified its attack on the BJP by separately accusing the ruling party of being incapable of managing the city administration efficiently. In another post shared on X, the party claimed that the BJP had “turned the lives of Delhiites into hell” through administrative negligence and poor civic management. Referring specifically to the garbage dump shown near Ambedkar Nagar Hospital, the party alleged that the scene reflected the BJP government’s incompetence and failure to maintain basic cleanliness standards in the capital.
The AAP additionally took a sarcastic swipe at what it called the BJP’s “four-engine government,” accusing the party of failing despite having control over multiple layers of governance in Delhi. According to the party, garbage piles and civic problems started appearing across the city soon after the BJP assumed greater administrative control.
The term “four-engine government” has frequently been used by the Aam Aadmi Party as a political criticism directed at the BJP. The phrase refers to the BJP’s influence and control over the Central government, the Delhi administration, the Municipal Corporation, and the office of the Lieutenant Governor. AAP leaders have repeatedly argued that despite this concentration of power, the BJP has failed to ensure proper sanitation, drainage management, and civic services for residents of Delhi.
The latest exchange between the BJP and AAP comes amid continuing political confrontation in the national capital over governance, infrastructure, sanitation, and public service delivery. Civic conditions, garbage management, waterlogging, and overflowing drains have remained recurring political flashpoints between the two parties, especially during the monsoon season and periods of heavy rainfall.
Kejriwal’s remarks and the AAP campaign against the BJP-led administration are expected to further intensify political tensions in Delhi as both parties continue blaming each other over the city’s infrastructure and civic management challenges.
