Rahul Gandhi responded with humour on Saturday after his investment advisor publicly revealed that their professional relationship had continued for years despite the advisor openly supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reacting to the advisor’s social media post, Gandhi joked about his investment returns while making light of the political differences between them.
“Muthu ji, your political views are your own -- but please do speed up the returns on my investments,” Gandhi wrote in a post on X, drawing widespread attention online for the light-hearted response.
The exchange began after investment advisor Muthukrishnan Dhandapani shared a lengthy post on social media describing his professional association with Rahul Gandhi and explaining how Gandhi never allowed political disagreements to affect their work relationship.
Dhandapani clarified that he was not making the post to support any political party or leader but wanted to challenge what he described as misleading political perceptions created by media narratives and party IT cells.
“Not going to share any personal details. I just want to highlight how perception is different from reality. This is not to support any political party or leader. I want to let you know things are not as they look,” he wrote.
According to Dhandapani, the professional relationship began in 2013 when a client already working with Rahul Gandhi recommended his name to handle Gandhi’s mutual fund investments.
He said that from the days of the United Progressive Alliance government until the present political situation in 2026, Rahul Gandhi had continued to remain his client for investment-related services.
Dhandapani also noted that, despite being an outspoken supporter of Narendra Modi and the BJP between 2014 and 2024, neither Rahul Gandhi nor members of his office staff ever raised objections regarding his political preferences.
“We have exchanged many emails and have spoken over the phone a lot of times. And as you are aware, I've been a strong Modi supporter from 2014 to 2024,” Dhandapani wrote.
“Never once did Rahul or his office staff bring that subject to me. I believe my tweets are regularly seen by his staff. They clearly differentiate between my professional service and political beliefs,” he added.
The advisor further claimed that during all their interactions over the years, Rahul Gandhi had consistently treated him respectfully and professionally and never behaved arrogantly despite their differing political opinions.
Dhandapani also revealed that Gandhi had even sought his opinion a few years ago while selecting another important professional appointment, despite being fully aware of his BJP support.
“This post may lead to Rahul terminating our professional relationship. That's ok. Everything should end one day,” Dhandapani wrote while acknowledging the possibility that the public disclosure could affect their association.
However, he said he still wanted to make the post because he believed political discourse in India often unfairly dehumanised leaders through partisan campaigns and social media attacks.
“I do not know Rahul Gandhi as a politician. Based on the last 14 years of interaction, all I can say is he respects professionals a lot and is a nice human being to interact with,” he stated.
He also urged people not to blindly trust narratives promoted by political IT cells or sections of mainstream media associated with any party.
Rahul Gandhi’s humorous response quickly gained traction online, with many social media users highlighting the unusually cordial interaction between two individuals publicly associated with opposing political viewpoints.
Following Gandhi’s reply, Dhandapani said he was pleasantly surprised by the Congress leader’s reaction and appreciated the humour in the response.
