Police in Indore have launched a detailed investigation after three suspicious abandoned bags containing large bundles of currency notes were discovered along the Sanwer-Ujjain Road. The shocking discovery triggered concern and confusion after officials found that several of the bundles were allegedly filled with fake currency notes and stacks of coloured paper instead of real cash.
According to police officials, the incident came to light on Thursday morning when a farmer passing through the area noticed three unattended bags lying beneath a tree near Bhutta Square. Finding the bags suspicious, the farmer immediately informed local authorities, prompting a rapid response from the police.
Soon after receiving the alert, a police team reached the location and secured the bags for examination. When officers opened them, they found hundreds of bundles appearing to contain Rs 500 currency notes. Based on an initial assessment, authorities estimated that the total cash inside the bags appeared to amount to nearly Rs 2.83 crore.
However, as investigators began inspecting the bundles more carefully, they discovered a major irregularity. While a few genuine currency notes had reportedly been placed on the top layers of several packets to make them appear authentic, many of the bundles actually contained counterfeit notes along with plain coloured papers stuffed inside.
The discovery raised suspicions among investigators, who now believe the bags may have been connected to a major financial fraud operation or an illegal transaction involving fake currency. The method used suggested that the bundles may have been deliberately prepared to deceive someone into believing they contained large amounts of real cash.
Given the seriousness of the case, police immediately cordoned off the surrounding area and intensified the investigation. Officials are currently examining CCTV footage collected from the highway and nearby locations in an effort to identify the individuals responsible for abandoning the bags and to understand the exact motive behind the incident.
The suspicious bundles and all related materials have been seized by the police as evidence. Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing and further details are expected to emerge after forensic examination and additional inquiry.
