The launch of a farmer support initiative by Mohan Yadav in Bhopal took an unexpected turn when a live demonstration of the newly introduced helpline failed to deliver the intended message, instead drawing attention for its awkward execution.
The Chief Minister had unveiled the ‘CM Kisan Helpline’, a toll-free service designed to assist farmers across Madhya Pradesh by providing agricultural guidance and support. To showcase its effectiveness, he decided to place a call to the helpline during the event, presenting himself as an ordinary farmer seeking advice on suitable crops for the summer season.
However, the demonstration did not go as planned. After briefly interacting with the operator, the response he received indicated that no relevant information was available at that moment. The unexpected reply created an uncomfortable pause, and the Chief Minister quickly ended the call, prompting laughter among those present.
The incident soon gained traction online and drew criticism from opposition leaders, including Jitu Patwari, who questioned the preparedness of the administration. He used the moment to highlight what he described as a pattern of inaccurate statements related to agriculture, referencing earlier remarks by the Chief Minister that had been widely criticised.
Patwari’s comments also revisited previous controversies, including claims attributed to Yadav about agricultural output and crop-related terminology, which critics argued reflected a lack of practical understanding of farming realities.
While the helpline initiative was intended to project the government’s commitment to supporting farmers through accessible advisory services, the episode shifted attention toward operational readiness and administrative coordination, turning what was meant to be a policy showcase into a moment of political scrutiny.
