A wedding in Karnataka’s Mysuru district reportedly ended in tragedy after a 21-year-old woman and her parents allegedly died by suicide days before her scheduled marriage.
The woman, Rakshita, was engaged and was set to be married on June 24. However, according to police, a man named Ullas Gowda, who had previously proposed to her and was rejected in front of her family, had continued to harass her and her parents.
On June 21, the woman’s parents reportedly called Gowda and his family to their home and warned him to stop the harassment. During this meeting, some private photos and messages linked to Rakshita were allegedly deleted from his phone.
However, Gowda is said to have kept copies of some images. Shortly after leaving the house, he allegedly sent those photos to Rakshita’s fiancé, which triggered a confrontation between the two families.
Police said the situation escalated when the groom’s family arrived at the bride’s home.
Later that night, Rakshita and her parents allegedly consumed poison at their residence in Kempainahundi village. A suicide note recovered by police reportedly blamed Ullas Gowda for the deaths.
An abetment of suicide case has been registered against Gowda, who is currently absconding while investigations continue.
