An Indian family has come under criticism after being accused of harassing restaurant staff and damaging property at a restaurant in Vietnam when employees reportedly asked them to stop their children from throwing tissues around the dining area.
The incident was shared on Instagram by Aishwarya Khanna Singh, owner of Bombay Bites, an Indian restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City. According to her, the confrontation began after staff politely requested that the family prevent their children from scattering tissues across the restaurant.
CCTV footage posted online shows children pulling tissues from holders and throwing them around the dining area. The video also appears to show them handling plates and drinking glasses before dropping or throwing them onto the floor.
As tensions escalated, a man believed to be the children's father was seen arguing with staff members and gesturing angrily. The footage further shows him picking up glasses from a nearby table and smashing them on the floor.
A staff member, visibly upset, was seen walking away and throwing his cap to the ground. The man and a woman believed to be the children’s mother then approached him. The footage appears to show both individuals physically confronting the employee before others intervened to separate those involved and de-escalate the situation.
In her post, Aishwarya alleged that instead of cooperating with staff, the family damaged property, mistreated employees, and avoided accountability while claiming influencer status.
She emphasised that while providing hospitality is the restaurant’s responsibility, maintaining basic decency is everyone’s duty. She added that respect for staff, public property, and shared spaces should never be compromised.
The video triggered widespread backlash on social media, with many users criticising the parents for their conduct and arguing that they had set a poor example for their children.
Several commenters said the adults appeared to encourage confrontational behaviour rather than teaching values such as discipline and respect. Others described the incident as a reflection of poor civic sense and a lack of regard for service workers and public spaces.
Many also expressed concern about the impact such behaviour could have on the children, while some called for the matter to be reported to local authorities and appropriate action to be taken against those responsible.
