Apple raises the price of MacBooks and iPads in India by one lakh. View the updated prices here

Apple has revised the prices of several MacBook and iPad models in India, with some devices becoming significantly more expensive. The updated pricing, now reflected on Apple’s India website, follows recent remarks by CEO Tim Cook indicating that rising memory costs and supply chain pressures were making price increases unavoidable.

Among the most notable changes is the 13-inch MacBook Air powered by the M5 chip. Originally launched at Rs 1,19,900, it is now priced at Rs 1,49,900, marking an increase of Rs 30,000. The 15-inch MacBook Air has also become costlier, with its price rising from Rs 1,44,900 to Rs 1,79,900, an increase of Rs 35,000.

The MacBook Pro lineup has witnessed even steeper revisions. The base 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip and 16GB RAM, which debuted at Rs 1,69,900, is now listed at Rs 2,39,900, reflecting a hike of Rs 70,000. Meanwhile, the 14-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the M5 Max chip has seen its price increase by as much as Rs 1 lakh.

Apple’s entry-level laptop offering, the MacBook Neo, has also become more expensive. Initially introduced at Rs 69,900, it now costs Rs 79,900, representing a Rs 10,000 increase.

The price adjustments extend to Apple’s iPad range as well. The 11-inch iPad Air featuring the M4 processor now carries a price tag of Rs 89,900, up from its launch price of Rs 64,900, resulting in a Rs 25,000 increase. Similarly, the iPad Pro with the M5 chip and 256GB storage now costs Rs 1,39,900, compared to its earlier price of Rs 99,990, an increase of Rs 39,910.

The price increases are not limited to India. Apple has also revised prices in international markets, including the United States. The iPad Air now starts at $749 instead of $599, while the iPad Pro’s starting price has risen from $999 to $1,199.

The MacBook Neo now starts at $699 compared to its earlier launch price of $599. The base MacBook Air has moved from $1,099 to $1,299, while the 14-inch MacBook Pro now starts at $1,999 instead of $1,699.

Apple has attributed the increases primarily to the sharp rise in memory component costs. According to the company, escalating prices for high-performance memory modules have significantly affected manufacturing costs. As newer MacBooks and iPads increasingly rely on larger amounts of unified memory, the impact of these component price increases has become more pronounced.

In a statement shared with India Today Tech, Apple said it had absorbed these rising costs for as long as possible but had reached a point where it needed to increase prices on several products, including Macs and iPads.

The effect is particularly noticeable in India, where Apple products already command premium prices. Increases ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh shortly after launch are unusual for the company’s product lineup and could influence purchasing decisions among students, professionals, and first-time Apple buyers.

Commenting on the development, Prabhu Ram, Vice President at CyberMedia Research, noted that rising prices are becoming evident across the consumer electronics sector. He said that if a company with Apple’s scale and supply-chain capabilities is passing on higher component costs to customers, the impact on manufacturers with less bargaining power could be even greater.

The company’s latest pricing strategy suggests that ensuring component availability and maintaining product configurations have taken priority over preserving earlier price points, as increasing supply-chain costs continue to reshape the global electronics market.
