Currently, an AI company employs more robots than people

Figure AI has reported a shift in its workforce structure, with its CEO Brett Adcock announcing on X that, for the first time, the number of robots operating within the company has exceeded its human headcount. He shared a chart showing a sharp rise in robot deployment beginning in 2025, after remaining near zero in earlier years, eventually reaching roughly 740 robots by 2026.

According to the data shared, the company’s human workforce has also grown steadily over the same period, rising from near zero in 2022 to around 400 by late 2025 and further increasing to approximately 650–660 in 2026. However, the growth rate of robots has reportedly been faster, suggesting a rapid scale-up in automation within the organisation.

Adcock also shared visuals of humanoid robots being prepared for deployment, describing the development as a significant milestone for the company. The announcement comes amid a broader industry trend where companies are increasingly investing in automation and AI-driven systems, alongside workforce restructuring in parts of the tech sector.

Elon Musk has previously suggested that advances in humanoid robotics could lead to large-scale economic abundance, while competing firms such as Tesla with its Optimus project, and Chinese robotics startups like Unitree and Agibot, are also working on similar technologies.
