Sejal Pawar, an undergraduate MBBS student at Mumbai's KEM Hospital, has been directed to proceed on a 15-day leave and has been temporarily barred from entering both the college campus and hostel premises following controversy surrounding remarks she made during a stand-up comedy show hosted by comedian Pranit More. The disciplinary action comes after a video clip from the event went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism and prompting the hospital administration to initiate an inquiry into the matter.
The controversy began after footage from More's comedy show surfaced online, showing Pawar making comments about male cadavers and human bodies used in medical education. The remarks quickly drew criticism from members of the medical community and the public, with many arguing that the comments were disrespectful to individuals who donate their bodies for medical training and scientific learning.
As the video gained traction online, KEM Hospital authorities reviewed the matter and expressed concern over the nature of the statements. Officials stated that the comments appeared to undermine the dignity and respect owed to deceased individuals whose bodies are used for educational and research purposes in medical institutions. Earlier, KEM Hospital Dean Dr Harish M. Pathak publicly stated that the remarks made by the student were unacceptable. The dean's comments reflected the institution's position that ethical conduct and respect for human dignity are fundamental principles of medical practice.

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde condemned the remarks and stated that vulgarity and hateful comments could not be justified in the name of entertainment. She stressed that public platforms should not be used to normalise offensive or disrespectful behaviour, particularly when it concerns sensitive subjects.
The issue expanded further when law enforcement agencies became involved. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell registered a case against comedian Pranit More, web developer Himanshu Jangra, and others in connection with the dissemination of allegedly obscene and objectionable content through social media platforms. Investigators are examining whether content from the comedy show violated applicable laws governing online publication and public communication.
Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra have already been at the centre of a separate controversy arising from comments made during the same comedy event in Gurugram. According to reports, the controversy stemmed from a story narrated by Jangra regarding an incident involving a date. During the performance, he recounted spending Rs 370 on a plate of chicken biryani and later claimed that when the woman requested a ride home, he sought sexual favours in return for the money he had spent.
The remarks generated strong criticism because many viewers interpreted them as trivialising coercive and non-consensual behaviour. Video clips from the performance circulated widely online, leading to accusations that the content promoted problematic attitudes towards consent and interpersonal relationships. More was also criticised after footage showed him laughing at Jangra's comments during the show.
The resulting backlash on social media was significant, with many users condemning the remarks and calling for accountability. As criticism intensified, both More and Jangra issued public apologies. They acknowledged the concerns raised by viewers and expressed regret over the offence caused by the comments.
In addition to apologising, Jangra reportedly deactivated his Instagram account amid the controversy. The move came as public scrutiny of the incident continued to grow and calls for action increased.
