Following Shwetha Menon's departure, Mammootty speaks out against the film body crisis

Malayalam actor Mammootty has responded for the first time to the ongoing crisis within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), days after its entire executive committee, including president Shwetha Menon, resigned following a contentious general body meeting.

When asked about the controversy, Mammootty initially responded lightly, saying, “I was wondering why you hadn’t asked that yet.” The 74-year-old actor then avoided going into details, urging patience instead. “Let things pan out, a decision will be reached; it’s okay,” he said.

As reporters pressed him further, he suggested that the situation should be allowed to resolve itself naturally. “We can only see things as they unfold, can’t we? The next moment is not in our hands. All problems must be resolved, and they will be. These are just small matters, aren’t they?” he remarked, appearing to downplay the issue while expressing confidence that it would eventually be settled.

The comments were made while Mammootty was speaking to the media after receiving the Padma Bhushan from President Droupadi Murmu at the Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

His remarks come amid a major internal crisis in AMMA, triggered after the 17-member executive committee led by actor Shwetha Menon stepped down following a no-confidence motion and heated discussions at the annual general body meeting in Kochi.

The situation escalated further after Menon alleged financial irregularities in the organisation’s past functioning and said she would not continue in what she described as a controlled or compromised role.

Following the mass resignation, AMMA appointed an ad-hoc committee headed by actor and Palakkad MLA Ramesh Pisharody to manage affairs until new elections are held. The developments have placed the organisation under renewed scrutiny, especially in the wake of earlier controversies linked to the Justice Hema Committee report.
