Half-yearly box office report: Dhurandhar has a mixed performance

The Hindi box office delivered a mix of successes and disappointments in the first half of 2026. While more than 300 films released across languages, only a few emerged as major commercial hits.

The biggest winner was Dhurandhar: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh. The film became the year's highest-grossing Hindi release, earning Rs 1,845.81 crore worldwide and setting several box-office records.

Other successful releases included Border 2, Bhooth Bangla, Mardaani 3, Cocktail 2 and Main Vaapas Aaunga, which helped maintain theatre footfall despite an uneven market.

Industry experts noted that audiences are increasingly prioritising strong content over star power. While some films found success through positive word of mouth, several star-led projects failed to sustain momentum beyond their opening weekends.

Hollywood releases also contributed significantly to box-office collections, with major titles attracting audiences to multiplexes and premium screens.

Looking ahead, the second half of 2026 features a strong lineup, including Alpha, Dhamaal 4, Mirzapur: The Film, Ramayana, King and Drishyam 3. Trade analysts believe these releases could help the industry end the year on a much stronger note.
