On Wednesday, the monsoon will move through Maharashtra, the northeast, and the west coast

The southwest monsoon is expected to remain active over large parts of India on Wednesday, June 24, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), bringing widespread rainfall along the west coast and in the Northeast.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in regions including Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Assam and Meghalaya, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Rainfall activity is also likely across Bihar, Odisha, Telangana, parts of Maharashtra including Marathwada, as well as sections of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The monsoon has strengthened over the southern and central parts of the country, with widespread showers continuing over Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana. Mumbai also recorded the arrival of monsoon rains on Tuesday, June 23.

Along the western coast, including Konkan, Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala, rainfall is expected to remain particularly active, with frequent spells likely through the week. Telangana is also expected to see continued widespread showers as the wet spell persists.

At the same time, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely in several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha. In Bihar, isolated thundersqualls could reach speeds of up to 60 kmph.

Despite the monsoon’s progress, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha for a few more days.

Overall, the IMD indicates that the monsoon will remain active across much of India, with a mix of heavy rain, thunderstorms and localized heat continuing through the week.
