Police look into the mass suicide angle after four family members were discovered dead in a Maharashtra hamlet

Panic spread across Maharashtra's Washim district after four members of the same family were found dead under mysterious circumstances on Saturday, prompting a detailed police investigation. While preliminary findings suggest that the incident may be a case of mass suicide, authorities have said that all possible angles are being examined before any final conclusion is reached.

The shocking incident came to light when local residents noticed the body of a 35-year-old man, identified as Santosh Tukaram Bakal, hanging from an electricity tower in a field near Tivli village. The discovery immediately alarmed villagers, who rushed to the spot and informed the police.

As people gathered near the site, the situation took a more tragic turn when the bodies of a woman and two young children were found floating in a nearby well located a short distance from the electricity tower. The grim discovery sent shockwaves through the village and left residents stunned.

Police personnel arrived at the scene soon after receiving information about the incident. With the assistance of local residents, officers retrieved the bodies from the well using a makeshift cot. The deceased were later identified as Santosh Bakal's wife and the couple's two children.

Following the recovery operation, police carried out a preliminary inspection of the scene and documented the circumstances surrounding the deaths. All four bodies were subsequently sent to the government hospital in Malegaon for post-mortem examinations, which investigators believe will provide crucial information regarding the exact cause and sequence of events.

Providing details about the case, senior police officer Imran Pathan said that authorities received information about the incident at around 4 pm from the village Police Patil, who reported a suspected suicide case involving multiple family members.

According to Pathan, the initial investigation points towards the possibility of a mass suicide. However, he stressed that investigators are not ruling out any possibility and are conducting a comprehensive probe to determine whether the deaths resulted from a suicide pact or whether any element of foul play was involved.

The officer stated that the police are awaiting the post-mortem reports, which are expected to play a key role in establishing the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Investigators are also gathering additional evidence and speaking to people familiar with the family in an effort to understand the events leading up to the tragedy.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief over Tivli village, where residents are struggling to come to terms with the loss of an entire family. As the investigation continues, authorities remain focused on uncovering the truth behind the heartbreaking deaths and determining what led to the devastating incident.
