Actor Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film Chauhaan has sparked controversy soon after its title and first-look teaser were unveiled. The Kshatriya Parishad has objected to both the use of the Chauhan name and the way it appears to be represented in the promotional material. The organisation has accused the filmmakers of exploiting Rajput history and identity for contemporary political messaging.
In a statement shared on social media, the group alleged that the film uses the Chauhan clan name to advance what it described as present-day communal narratives. It claimed that such attempts are often linked to ideological or electoral agendas.
Expressing strong disapproval, the Kshatriya Parishad stated that the Chauhans are a historic Rajput lineage whose legacy belongs to the pages of history and should not be used as part of political campaigns or media-driven controversies.
The organisation further described the development as unfortunate, arguing that Rajput identity was once again being drawn into a political discourse that the community neither initiated nor endorsed. It noted that at a time when Rajput perspectives remain underrepresented in mainstream discussions, invoking a Rajput clan name to generate outrage or fuel social divisions was both irresponsible and disrespectful.
The statement also criticised what it called a simplistic interpretation of Indian history. According to the group, medieval alliances and conflicts were shaped by political strategy, military interests, and loyalty rather than the communal frameworks often imposed on them today.
To support its argument, the Kshatriya Parishad pointed to several historical examples. These included Mahmud Lodi fighting alongside Maharana Sanga at the Battle of Khanwa, Hakim Khan Sur serving in Maharana Pratap’s forces at Haldighati, the traditional association of Farid Khan (later Sher Shah Suri) with Raja Raisal Shekhawat during the early part of his career, and Maharaja Vikramaditya Tomar fighting alongside the Lodis at the First Battle of Panipat. According to the organisation, these examples demonstrate that historical political relationships were far more complex than modern communal interpretations suggest.
The group reiterated that it rejects any effort to weaponise Rajput history or use Rajput identities for ideological or political objectives. It also called on filmmakers, political leaders, and media organisations to approach historical subjects responsibly and avoid turning Rajput heritage into a tool for divisive debates.
The title announcement teaser introduces Ajay Devgn in a powerful action-oriented role. It begins with a monologue reflecting on decades of unrest in Kashmir, highlighting years of conflict, military presence, and temporary solutions that have failed to bring lasting peace. The teaser culminates with the line, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai,” presenting Devgn’s character as a figure determined to alter the course of events.
Chauhaan marks Ajay Devgn’s first collaboration with filmmaker Aanand L Rai. Produced by Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions, the film is directed by Neeraj Yadav and backed by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai, and Himanshu Sharma. The makers have positioned it as a large-scale action entertainer designed for theatrical audiences.
The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on October 1, 2027.
