2,500 students are impacted when Mahesh Tutorials closes 33 teaching facilities in Maharashtra

Students and parents across Maharashtra have been left in uncertainty after Mahesh Tutorials abruptly shut 33 coaching centres, affecting around 2,500 students in the middle of the academic year.

The centres were closed after admissions for the 2026-27 session had reportedly been completed and fees collected. The decision, taken by MT Educare, came into effect on July 10 following an internal meeting on July 7. The shutdown has also impacted teachers and other staff.

COMPANY UNDER INSOLVENCY

MT Educare has been undergoing insolvency proceedings since December 2022 following an NCLT order. Reports indicate the company has outstanding dues of around ₹74.29 crore, while promoter Mahesh Shetty is also facing personal insolvency proceedings linked to loan defaults.

Parents are now demanding clarity on refunds, with many seeking fee audits and pro-rata reimbursements.

ARIHANT ACADEMY OFFERS SUPPORT

Arihant Academy has announced it will admit eligible Mahesh Tutorials students at selected branches across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region without charging additional admission fees. Students will only need to pay the remaining balance of their course fees.

The academy clarified that it has not acquired or merged with MT Educare.

The sudden closure has left thousands of students searching for alternative coaching options while awaiting clarity on the fees they have already paid.
