Actor Sumona Chakravarti delivers a heartfelt statement and discloses endometriosis surgery

Actor Sumona Chakravarti has revealed that she recently underwent surgery after years of living with endometriosis, saying the condition had progressed significantly despite her efforts to manage it. In a heartfelt Instagram post shared after a two-month break from social media, the 38-year-old said she had spent the past several weeks focusing on her physical and emotional recovery.

Reassuring her followers, Chakravarti said she is now "well. In fact, very well." Beyond updating fans on her health, she reflected on her relationship with social media and expressed a desire to create a meaningful online community centred around issues that matter to her, particularly those affecting women.

Beginning her post on a light-hearted note, Chakravarti wrote, "Hellooo there! Happy to resurface after a long time. I've been living under a rock for the last two months." She explained that she had deliberately stayed away from social media during this period before revealing that she had undergone surgery to remove endometriosis after the condition worsened.

Looking back on the experience, she said the past two months had been dedicated to healing, both physically and mentally. She also expressed gratitude to her doctor and the medical team for supporting her throughout the recovery process.

The actor shared that the break had changed her perspective on social media. She admitted that she had briefly considered deleting WhatsApp and Instagram altogether before realising that doing so was unrealistic.

"After all, I'm not retiring to the mountains just yet," she wrote, adding that she still had work, family, friends and everyday life to stay connected with.

Chakravarti said she had never been interested in chasing likes, comments or follower counts. Instead, she now hopes to use her social media platforms to foster conversations around physical and mental health, perimenopause, endometriosis, wellness, travel, books, plants, pets, food, choosing to remain single, living independently, being child-free and the DINK (Double Income, No Kids) lifestyle. She added that these ideas were still taking shape and that she was yet to decide how to bring them to life.

She also addressed the online abuse she has faced over the years, saying that many public comments on her posts target her appearance or contain crude and inappropriate remarks, most of which come from men. At the same time, she acknowledged the many genuine followers who quietly read her posts, leave supportive messages or reach out privately.

While acknowledging that such experiences often come with being a female actor, Chakravarti said she remains committed to her profession and intends to continue acting for as long as she can. She also reiterated her preference for keeping her personal life private but said she would continue speaking openly whenever her experiences could genuinely help others.

Explaining why she chose to write a lengthy note instead of posting a simple photograph, she said it was a way of seeing how many people were willing to slow down, read it in full and stay engaged.

She ended the post with a touch of humour, writing, "The difference between brewed coffee and instant coffee. You get the gist."

On the professional front, Chakravarti began her career as a child artist before appearing in television shows such as Kasamh Se and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. She later became a household name for playing Manju Sharma, Kapil Sharma's on-screen wife, in Comedy Nights with Kapil, and went on to feature in various roles in The Kapil Sharma Show. She has also appeared in Khatron Ke Khiladi 14 and the film Barfi!.
