At Lord's, Shree Charani receives his first Test cap in recognition of his heroics at the T20 World Cup

What a moment for Shree Charani and for women's cricket.

Shree Charani made her Test debut for India at Lord's, receiving her maiden Test cap from vice-captain Smriti Mandhana before the one-off Test against England.

This match is historic because it is the first-ever women's Test played at Lord's, one of cricket's most iconic venues.

Why Charani earned her debut

Charani's selection comes on the back of an outstanding Women's T20 World Cup:

  • Finished as India's leading wicket-taker with 14 wickets in 5 matches.

  • Set the record for the most wickets by an Indian in a single Women's T20 World Cup, surpassing Poonam Yadav's previous record of 10.

  • Reached No. 1 in the ICC Women's T20I bowling rankings.

  • Her 14 wickets are the second-most in a single Women's T20 World Cup, behind Amelia Kerr's 15.

Other notable team news

  • Yastika Bhatia returned to India's Test side after more than two and a half years.

  • England handed Test debuts to Mady Villiers and Alice Capsey.

  • England won the toss and chose to bowl first.
