Lionel Messi reacts to viral bathtub pic with baby Lamine Yamal. Here's what he said

The Argentina vs Spain World Cup final on July 19 will feature a compelling subplot as Lionel Messi comes up against Lamine Yamal in New York. Widely regarded as the standout players of their respective generations, both rose through Barcelona's La Masia academy and have been instrumental in guiding their teams to the tournament's final.

The connection between the two, however, dates back nearly two decades. In what has since become one of football's most iconic photographs, a young Messi participated in a UNICEF photoshoot with an infant Yamal. Years later, the pair are now set to face each other for the biggest prize in international football.

Speaking at Fanatics Fest, Messi was asked by NFL legend Tom Brady about the famous bathtub photograph and the prospect of facing Yamal in the World Cup final. The Argentine admitted that the journey from that memorable image to Sunday's showdown was almost unbelievable.

"That picture with Lamine, now we are facing in a final after a photo was taken of when he was a baby," Messi told Brady. "It's just insane."

Messi eager to stop Yamal's dream

While Messi praised Yamal's rise and revealed that he closely follows the young Spaniard's progress because of their shared Barcelona connection, he made it clear that he intends to deny the teenager a historic World Cup triumph.

"Lamine is truly amazing," Messi said. "I've followed him a lot because he plays for a club I love so much. He has a chance to achieve something historic — we're going to try to make sure that doesn't happen this time."

The final carries major historical significance for both players. A victory would make Messi the first captain to lift back-to-back FIFA World Cup trophies, while Yamal could become the second-youngest player ever to start and win a World Cup final.

"We'll try to put on a good match, but I hope he and his team don't put on a good one," Messi added.

With both players chasing history, the spotlight will firmly be on Messi and Yamal as they lead Argentina and Spain into one of the most anticipated World Cup finals in recent memory.
