On Sunday, the heatwave will return. Rainfall in Bihar, Assam, and Uttarakhand

Large parts of northern, eastern, and northeastern India are expected to remain under the influence of an active southwest monsoon on Saturday, July 12, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall across several states, including Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand.

Heavy rain is also likely at isolated locations in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, extending the wet spell that has affected several northern states over the past few days.

According to the IMD, isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Heavy rainfall has also been forecast for Arunachal Pradesh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and parts of the Delhi-NCR region.

Active Monsoon Across Much of the Country

The southwest monsoon continues to remain active over large parts of India, with widespread rainfall expected across the Himalayan belt, eastern India, and the northeastern states.

The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, while Bihar and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are likely to experience fairly widespread rainfall.

Central India, including Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha, along with parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and peninsular India, is expected to receive isolated to scattered showers.

The weather department's outlook indicates that the monsoon will remain active across several regions throughout much of the coming week, with rain-bearing systems continuing to influence weather conditions over eastern, northeastern, and parts of western India.

States including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Konkan and Goa, coastal Karnataka, and Uttarakhand are expected to receive widespread or fairly widespread rainfall over the next several days.

Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

In addition to heavy rainfall, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, East Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Jharkhand.

Gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are also expected over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and West Madhya Pradesh. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely across parts of the Northeast, Bihar, and Uttarakhand.

While monsoon conditions will prevail across most parts of the country, the IMD has also warned of isolated heatwave conditions over Coastal Andhra Pradesh on July 12, highlighting the contrasting weather pattern in which some regions continue to experience unusually high temperatures even as widespread monsoon rainfall affects much of the rest of India.
