Rajinikanth's action sequel Jailer 2 will be released in October

Sun Pictures has officially announced the release date of Jailer 2, confirming that the Rajinikanth-starrer will hit theatres in October. The production house revealed the date through a short teaser shared across its social media platforms, ending months of speculation about the sequel's theatrical release.

The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on Thursday, October 15, coinciding with the festive season. The holiday release is expected to boost footfall over the extended weekend. Alongside its domestic release, Jailer 2 will also open in international markets, where Rajinikanth continues to enjoy a strong fan following.

Nelson Dilipkumar and Anirudh Ravichander reunite

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 reunites the core team behind the 2023 blockbuster. Music composer Anirudh Ravichander also returns for the sequel, while production on the film was completed earlier this year.

The original Jailer followed the story of Muthuvel Pandian, a retired prison warden who is forced back into action after his son becomes the target of powerful enemies. Combining action, dark humour and Nelson's signature storytelling style, the film emerged as one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2023 and was among the year's biggest box office successes.

Larger ensemble for a wider audience

The sequel is expected to feature an even bigger ensemble cast. Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar are likely to reprise their cameo roles, while the makers have added several prominent Hindi film actors in an effort to expand the film's appeal across India.

Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan and Hrithik Roshan have joined the cast in important roles, although details about their characters have not yet been disclosed.

With Rajinikanth returning in the lead, the original creative team back on board and a festive release window in place, Jailer 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Tamil film releases of the year.
