Three students from Telangana died in a road accident in Florida, US, on Tuesday.
The crash happened on Interstate 95 near mile marker 172 in Palm Bay, Brevard County. The vehicle carrying the students reportedly went off the highway, hit a tree and caught fire. They were travelling to their part-time workplace at the time.
One of the victims has been identified as N. Rahul from Navipet in Nizamabad district, Telangana. He had moved to the US about three months ago for higher studies. After completing his master’s degree, he had enrolled in a PhD programme at the University of South Florida and was also looking for work.
The driver and front-seat passenger reportedly died at the scene. Rahul was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. The other two victims have not yet been officially identified.
Rahul's family has requested help from the Telangana and Central governments to bring his remains back to India. The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) is reportedly helping with the repatriation process.
The family said they learned about the accident early Wednesday morning and that Rahul had spoken to his mother shortly before his friends arrived to pick him up.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, and further details are awaited.
