Day 1: Rs 10 lakh, Day 24: Rs 47 crore The incredible box office success of Hanuman Ansh

Devotional drama Hanuman Ansh has emerged as one of the most surprising box-office success stories of 2026. The film, which opened with just Rs 10 lakh on August 7, has staged a remarkable turnaround three weeks after its release. On Day 24, it earned an estimated Rs 12.75 crore nett (gross collection after deducting taxes) from 5,363 shows, marking its biggest single-day collection so far. According to trade website Sacnilk, this pushed its India gross earnings to Rs 47.33 crore and net collection to Rs 40.13 crore.

The figures are particularly impressive given the film's modest start. Hanuman Ansh generated little pre-release excitement, while its first two weeks in theatres were disappointing. It earned only Rs 1.08 crore during its opening week and added another Rs 40 lakh in Week 2. After 14 days, its India net collection stood at just Rs 1.48 crore.

Then came an unexpected turnaround.

The turnaround nobody expected

The film is based on the life of Neem Karoli Baba, popularly known among his followers as Maharaj-Ji. Hanuman Ansh began attracting audiences during its third week, with strong word of mouth emerging as a major factor behind its growing popularity.

The film earned only Rs 15 lakh on Day 15, but collections began rising sharply soon afterwards.

On Day 16, it collected Rs 85 lakh, before crossing the Rs 2-crore mark on Day 17 with Rs 2.20 crore nett. The momentum continued throughout the week, allowing the film to earn Rs 10.40 crore during its third week alone.

Its fourth week has delivered an even bigger surprise.

Hanuman Ansh started its fourth Friday with Rs 6.25 crore, followed by Rs 9.25 crore on Saturday. Sunday brought another major surge, with the film collecting Rs 12.75 crore nett. This represented a 37.8% increase over Saturday's Rs 9.25 crore.

Remarkably, the film earned more on a single Sunday during its fourth week than it did throughout its entire first week.

Here is the day-wise India collection of Hanuman Ansh:

DayIndia Nett collection

Week 2Rs 40 lakh

From a modest opening to a box-office surprise

The film's journey stands out because it did not depend on a huge opening or a major star-driven wave to succeed. It began with just Rs 10 lakh and struggled to attract audiences during its first two weeks.

A gradual rise in positive word of mouth completely changed its fortunes. The film's organic audience response helped it gain momentum weeks after release, transforming what initially appeared to be a box-office disappointment into a sleeper hit.

The number of shows also reflects the film's changing fortunes. Rather than losing screens following its weak opening, Hanuman Ansh has expanded its theatrical presence as audience demand increased. Several theatres have reportedly continued running multiple shows even after the film completed three weeks.

A Rs 2-crore film delivering extraordinary returns

The scale of Hanuman Ansh's performance becomes even more striking when compared with its reported production budget. The film was reportedly made for around Rs 2 crore and has already earned Rs 40.13 crore nett in India, putting its theatrical earnings at more than 20 times its reported production cost.

The film also did not benefit from a conventional large-scale promotional campaign. Its makers reportedly focused on grassroots efforts, including community gatherings and bhandaras, while its devotional theme helped it establish a connection with its intended audience.

Week 3 transformed the film's fortunes

The most remarkable part of the Hanuman Ansh story is the huge difference between its first two weeks and its performance afterwards.

The film collected just Rs 1.48 crore in its opening 14 days. It then added Rs 10.40 crore in its third week alone. By Day 24, its India net earnings had climbed to Rs 40.13 crore.

This means the vast majority of its theatrical revenue came after an extremely slow start.

Its daily figures continue to show strong momentum. The Rs 12.75 crore earned on Day 24 is currently the film's highest single-day collection, surpassing the Rs 9.25 crore recorded on Day 23.

Hanuman Ansh stars Shobhinav Satyaa as Neem Karoli Baba, alongside Chandan K Anand, Anil Rastogi, Purnima Tiwari and Vihaan Shedge in supporting roles.

Satyaa's involvement in the lead role is itself unusual. He had initially been associated with the project as an assistant director but eventually took over the lead after the actor originally selected for the part fell ill.

Rs 50 crore now appears within reach

After 24 days, Hanuman Ansh has reached an India gross of Rs 47.33 crore, leaving it less than Rs 3 crore short of the Rs 50-crore milestone.

For a film that began with an opening of just Rs 10 lakh, the turnaround is remarkable.

Hanuman Ansh may have arrived in theatres with little attention, but it has gradually built an audience through recommendations and repeat viewings. Its performance shows that a film does not necessarily need a huge opening to succeed—it can still find its audience, even if that happens several weeks after release.
