A clash broke out at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain on Wednesday after around 40–50 Kanwar pilgrims allegedly crossed barricades in the Nandi Hall and tried to enter the sanctum without permission. Six security personnel were injured.
WHAT HAPPENED
The group allegedly pushed aside donation boxes while trying to enter the sanctum. When security guards stopped them, some members reportedly became aggressive and assaulted the staff.
CCTV footage shows devotees breaking through the barricades, moving donation boxes and arguing with security personnel before a fight broke out.
SIX SECURITY STAFF INJURED
Around six security personnel were injured, with two reportedly suffering serious injuries and requiring hospital treatment.
Police and other security staff later controlled the situation and removed the group from the Nandi Hall.
TEMPLE COMMITTEE TO TAKE ACTION
The Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee said it is identifying those involved and plans to take legal action.
It said breaking barricades, damaging property, attacking security personnel and violating darshan rules would not be tolerated.
INCIDENT DURING SAWAN
The clash happened during Sawan, when the Mahakal temple attracts a very large number of devotees.
Temple authorities said the incident disrupted crowd management and could have endangered other visitors. They stressed that religious devotion does not justify breaking security rules or established darshan procedures.
