As Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown Ups continues to receive a mixed response, Kannada star Kichcha Sudeep has backed Yash and applauded his decision to experiment with a different kind of film. Sudeep praised the actor for refusing to follow the usual formula of making another conventional commercial entertainer after a blockbuster and described Toxic as an “unusual and commendable attempt”.
Sharing his views on X, Sudeep wrote, “Just want to say this, @TheNameIsYash, you’ve genuinely tried something out of the box rather than taking the predictable route of making another regular, expected, formulaic follow-up to your previous commercial blockbuster.”
He further praised Yash for having the confidence to take a less conventional approach. “It takes a different mindset, conviction, and most importantly, the guts to attempt something like this,” Sudeep said.
The actor also pointed to the film's thought-provoking elements, saying they could lead to discussions among viewers. “Toxic is an unusual and commendable attempt. There are several portions that are genuinely intriguing and open to great debate, discussion, and learning,” he wrote.
“Kudos to you for daring to experiment and step away from the conventional,” Sudeep added.
SUDEEP BACKS YASH AMID MIXED RESPONSE
Sudeep's comments come as Toxic continues its theatrical run and remains a major talking point on social media. Although the film has registered strong box-office numbers, its reception has been largely divided, with several viewers posting memes, reactions and criticism online.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash in dual roles alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. The film is produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations LLP.
Set in Goa during the Portuguese colonial period, the film follows the rise and fall of a gangster against the backdrop of a changing world. It marks Yash's first theatrical release after KGF: Chapter 2 and takes a markedly different approach from the action-driven style associated with his previous blockbuster.
While KGF: Chapter 2 established Yash as one of Indian cinema's biggest commercial stars, Toxic represents an attempt to move beyond that established template and explore a more unconventional narrative.
