The trailer for Nikkhil Advani’s period drama series The Revolutionaries was released on August 26. The series is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 11. Based on Sanjeev Sanyal’s non-fiction book Revolutionaries: The Other Story Of How India Won Its Freedom, the show features Bhuvan Bam as Rash Behari Bose, Rohit Saraf as Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Gurfateh Pirzada as Bagha Jatin and Pratibha Ranta as Pratibha Lahiri.
Set against the backdrop of India’s freedom struggle, the Hindi-language series follows four young revolutionaries who turn to armed resistance against British rule. General Dyer, portrayed by Jason Shah, is shown pursuing them. The trailer centres on themes of youth, friendship, determination and sacrifice.
Created and directed by Nikkhil Advani, The Revolutionaries is produced by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani under Emmay Entertainment. The writing team includes Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh, Akshita Wadhwana, Shobhit Narang and Rutvi Mehta. Paoli Dam and Tota Roy Chowdhury also feature in important roles.
The trailer introduces Rash Behari Bose, Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Pratibha Lahiri and Bagha Jatin as they work together to challenge the British Empire. It features intense confrontations, chase sequences and large-scale action against the backdrop of colonial India, while portraying the four young characters as individuals prepared to sacrifice everything for a freedom they might never live to witness.
Bhuvan Bam said he was drawn to The Revolutionaries because it is different from a conventional freedom-fighter story. He described it as the tale of four young people fighting for their beliefs while dealing with conflicts and developing a bond forged through their shared struggle.
Speaking about Rash Behari Bose, Bam described him as a master of disguise who infiltrated British camps. Since limited archival material about Bose exists, the actor said he had the opportunity to develop the character through instinct and interpretation. He also credited Nikkhil Advani’s direction for giving him the confidence to explore the mysterious aspects of the revolutionary’s life.
Rohit Saraf said playing Sachindra Nath Sanyal allowed him to enter a completely unfamiliar world, both physically and emotionally. While portraying a real-life figure from India’s freedom movement was an honour, Saraf said what particularly appealed to him was Sanyal’s combination of childlike innocence and unwavering conviction.
The actor added that the role involved extensive training and pushed him beyond his comfort zone. He expressed hope that audiences would connect with his character and the stories being brought to the screen through the series.
Pratibha Ranta described Pratibha Lahiri as a young and progressive woman attempting to make herself heard in a male-dominated society, a struggle she believes remains relevant today. She said the character was developed collaboratively with Advani and the writers, with an emphasis on keeping her grounded and human rather than portraying her as larger than life.
Ranta added that Pratibha is discovering her own voice while becoming part of the revolutionary movement and hoped viewers would connect with the characters and their journeys.
Gurfateh Pirzada said working on The Revolutionaries introduced him to a relatively unfamiliar chapter of Indian history. He was particularly drawn to Bagha Jatin’s quiet strength, controlled aggression and the significance behind his words.
Pirzada said Advani wanted the series to have a youthful, fast-paced and action-oriented feel rather than resemble a conventional period drama. Although the story has been reimagined for cinematic purposes, he said the courage and determination of the revolutionaries could continue to inspire future generations.
The Revolutionaries will stream in Hindi on Prime Video from September 11, 2026, with dubbed versions available in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali.
