As Lage Raho Munna Bhai marks 20 years since its release, actor Arshad Warsi has reflected on how the Rajkumar Hirani directorial became a turning point in his life and career. In an exclusive conversation with India Today, Warsi, who made Circuit an iconic character, discussed the film’s lasting impact and revealed that another instalment featuring the much-loved characters may finally be taking shape.
Two decades after Lage Raho Munna Bhai arrived in theatres, Warsi continues to regard the film as a transformative experience. He said the project changed his life and also gave him the opportunity to work closely with Rajkumar Hirani, whom he greatly admires.
Recalling the film’s impact, Warsi said it was a life-changing experience for him and that meeting Hirani was one of the most memorable aspects of being part of the project.
The actor also shared an exciting update for fans of the franchise, revealing that work is currently underway on another instalment. Although he did not disclose any details, Warsi said the project could eventually happen and that everyone involved is looking forward to it.
Despite the possibility of returning as Circuit after 20 years, Warsi said he would not alter the character in any way. According to him, sequels and franchises are often driven by their characters rather than their stories. Audiences become attached to familiar characters and want to see them placed in new situations, he explained.
Warsi compared this approach to iconic characters such as Laurel and Hardy, Superman and Charlie Chaplin, arguing that changing the essence of such personalities could take away what audiences love about them.
The Welcome to the Jungle actor made it clear that he would not interfere with Circuit’s established personality. Since the character has already earned a special place in the hearts of viewers, he believes it is best not to “mess with it.”
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Lage Raho Munna Bhai was released in 2006 and starred Sanjay Dutt, Vidya Balan and Boman Irani in key roles.
