Several parts of eastern and central India are expected to experience heavy rainfall on Friday, September 11, with Odisha, Chhattisgarh and coastal Andhra Pradesh likely to witness the most intense spells, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The rainfall is being influenced by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which continues to affect weather conditions across several parts of the country.
As of September 10, the system was positioned over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. An associated cyclonic circulation was extending up to 9.4 km above mean sea level.

ODISHA, CHHATTISGARH AND ANDHRA PRADESH IN FOCUS
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on September 11.
Isolated heavy rain is also likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha, West Bengal and Sikkim.
Odisha may also experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph at isolated locations.
Comparable weather conditions are expected in parts of Marathwada, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, as well as Vidarbha.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to experience the strongest winds, with an isolated thundersquall potentially bringing gusts of 50–60 kmph.

BAY OF BENGAL FUELS RAIN ACROSS INDIA
The prevailing weather conditions are being partly driven by the low-pressure area situated over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, the cyclonic circulation linked to the system reaches high into the atmosphere and slopes southwestward with increasing altitude.
A trough extends from north Haryana through Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand towards the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
These weather systems can transport moisture into the atmosphere, helping trigger rainfall across surrounding regions.
The forecast comes after a spell of wet weather in several parts of eastern India.

During the 24 hours ending on the morning of September 10, isolated locations in East Uttar Pradesh recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall. Heavy rain was also reported from parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar.
The latest forecast suggests that rainfall activity will continue across much of eastern India over the next few days. Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Sikkim are among the areas likely to receive widespread or fairly widespread rain.
