Pune Police have submitted a 5,053-page chargesheet in the Ketan Agarwal murder case, alleging that his fiancee Siya Goyal and her alleged husband Chetan Chaudhary jointly pushed him off a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18. According to the chargesheet, Siya initially shoved Ketan with both hands, after which Chetan allegedly kicked him over the edge, causing him to fall into a ravine.
The investigation has also found that Siya had allegedly married Chetan several months before she became engaged to Ketan.
The chargesheet was filed before the Vadgaon Maval Sessions Court on September 19 and details the alleged planning, conspiracy and execution of the murder.
Police said the document is based on witness accounts as well as digital evidence, mobile phone records, chats, photographs, call details and CCTV footage.
The court will now review the chargesheet and determine the offences that should be formally framed against the accused.
WHAT THE CHARGESHEET SAYS
According to the police investigation, Siya met Chetan through her brother before Diwali in 2025. The two reportedly entered into a relationship, but her family opposed the match and began searching for another prospective groom.
In December, Siya and Chetan travelled to Rajasthan along with friends. Police allege that the couple got married at the Khatu Shyam Temple during the trip.
The alleged marriage was reportedly known only to Siya, Chetan and his friend Ritesh Hange, according to the chargesheet.
Investigators later recovered deleted photographs and messages from their phones, including a picture that allegedly showed the couple exchanging wedding garlands.
Despite the alleged marriage, Siya became engaged to Ketan in February 2026 after their families agreed to the alliance.
Police allege that Siya continued her relationship with Chetan and did not want to marry Ketan.
The situation allegedly became more pressing after both families scheduled Ketan and Siya's wedding for November and began preparing for it.
THE MURDER PLOT
The chargesheet alleges that Siya, Chetan and Ritesh discussed different ways of killing Ketan. Investigators claim they initially considered hiring someone else to carry out the killing but dropped the idea because they feared being exposed or later blackmailed.
According to police, the trio studied crime-related material and looked into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya before allegedly deciding that pushing Ketan from an isolated height could make his death appear accidental.
Lohagad Fort was then allegedly chosen as the location. Police claim the accused surveyed the area and selected a secluded spot after learning that a woman had died there in a fall in March 2025.
The first alleged attempt was made on June 14, when Siya reportedly tried to push Ketan from the chosen location. However, a tree allegedly stopped him from falling.
THE FATEFUL SECOND ATTEMPT
Investigators allege that Siya subsequently created a fake Instagram account using another person's photograph to convince Ketan to return to Lohagad on June 18.
Through the account, Ketan was allegedly invited to what he believed was a surprise birthday celebration organised by Siya. Police later recovered the deleted account with the help of forensic experts.
On June 18, Siya allegedly took Ketan to the previously selected location, while Chetan followed separately and concealed his identity by wearing a hoodie.
Police allege that Siya distracted Ketan and guided him towards the cliff edge before signalling Chetan.
She allegedly pushed Ketan first, following which Chetan kicked him, sending him over the cliff. Ritesh, who was initially allegedly involved in the plan, reportedly decided not to accompany them because he feared being arrested.
With the chargesheet filed within the statutory deadline, the case will now proceed to the next stage of the legal process. The court will examine the evidence and frame charges before the trial begins.
All three accused—Siya, Chetan and Ritesh—are currently lodged in Yerwada Jail. Ketan's family has also approached the Maharashtra chief minister seeking the appointment of senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, and the prosecution may consider the request.
