The Tirupati district police detained nine interstate traffickers at the Yellamanda Cross in Yerravaripalem Mandal and recovered 33 red sander logs worth 2 crores. On Friday night, Bakarapeta Circle inspector Tulasi Ram oversaw the operation against the smugglers.

According to information provided to Chandragiri sub-division DSP T.D. Yaswanth, who provided details on Saturday, police conducted a raid on a specified spot near Yellamanda Cross on Yellamanda-Ustikayalapenta Road at around 4:30 on Friday.

Smugglers tried desperately to flee after detecting the police operation. All nine of the incident's smugglers were eventually captured by the police force.

The defendants have been identified as M. Madurai (age 59), C. Govinda Swamy (age 49), A. Jai Ganesh (age 40), and C. Annamalai (age 35), all of Tamil Nadu; M. Ramesh (age 45), of Karnataka; and M.S. Sharfuddin (30), M. Sabeek (age 45), K.T. Sreeraj (age 36), of Kerala.

Three Toyota Innova SUVs, a Hyundai vehicle, a Bolero pickup truck, and a motorcycle were seized by police. Police searched the cars and discovered 33 hidden red sander logs.

The arrestees all have prior criminal histories, according to SP Parameswara Reddy. They were smuggling red sander logs into Vellore from the Seshachala forest region. Both of the detained people's gangs are distinct. They banded together to carry the illegal goods into Tamil Nadu.

In order to punish the accused for attempting to smuggle precious forest products, Preventive Detention (PD) Act will be employed, according to Parameswara Reddy.
