For alleged infidelity, a woman in Pakistan's Punjab province was stoned to death

In Pakistan's Punjab province, a harrowing incident unfolded as a woman met a tragic end, reportedly subjected to a brutal stoning to death, all stemming from allegations of adultery, as disclosed by the local police on Sunday.

This heart-wrenching episode transpired in the Rajanpur district of Punjab, situated approximately 500 kilometers away from Lahore, transpiring on a fateful Friday.

The narrative provided by law enforcement officials outlines that the husband of the woman, aged in her twenties, leveled accusations of adultery against her. On the ill-fated Friday, the man, accompanied by his two brothers, carried out a horrifying act, binding the woman to a tree and subsequently subjecting her to a merciless stoning to death. Before resorting to the fatal stoning, they subjected her to excruciating torture.

Subsequent to committing this heinous crime, the accused brothers absconded, seeking refuge in the border region demarcating Punjab and Balochistan, as reported by the police.

It is noteworthy that the victim hailed from the Alkani tribe of Rajanpur.

Regrettably, Pakistan grapples with a distressing pattern of honor-related violence against women, with numerous lives lost annually under the pretext of safeguarding family honor.

According to data compiled by human rights activists, an alarming figure of around 1,000 women are tragically killed each year in Pakistan in the name of preserving honor. These victims are often perceived as having transgressed societal norms, typically by either entering into marriages contrary to family wishes or becoming involved in extramarital affairs. Tragically, it is frequently members of the victim's own family who are complicit in carrying out these appalling acts of violence.

In a recent and equally distressing incident that transpired a few days prior, a young female doctor fell victim to an honor-related killing in Punjab's Mianwali district.

As per law enforcement reports, the 25-year-old doctor had aspirations of marrying her colleague, a decision that her father vehemently opposed. Tragically, over a week before the fatal incident, the doctor's father confronted her at her clinic in Mianwali city, instigating a heated argument over the matter. In the midst of this altercation, he drew a firearm and callously discharged it, gravely injuring his daughter. She was promptly rushed to a nearby medical facility, where despite valiant efforts, she ultimately succumbed to her grievous injuries, as confirmed by the police.
