In a fight over betting apps, the PM accuses Congress of not even sparing Mahadev's name

During a spirited rally held in the election-bound state of Chhattisgarh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed a scathing critique towards the Congress party, particularly in the context of the recent controversy involving the Mahadev betting app. At the heart of this contention is Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, PM Modi levied serious allegations against the Congress, asserting that they had resorted to employing hawala funds, sourced from illegal betting operators, to finance their electoral campaign in the state of Chhattisgarh. This candid accusation marked the latest development in a controversy that had gripped the region and the nation as a whole.

This revelation came in the wake of an announcement by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which claimed that the compilation of forensic evidence and statements made by a 'cash courier' had unveiled "startling allegations." These allegations, intriguingly, implicated the Mahadev betting app promoters in the payment of a substantial sum of approximately Rs 508 crore to Chief Minister Baghel. The ED clarified that this matter was currently under investigation, indicative of the complexities surrounding this controversy.

PM Modi, in his address to the people of Chhattisgarh, took the opportunity to highlight the track record and commitments of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He pledged the party's dedication to transforming and shaping the future of Chhattisgarh, underscoring the role the BJP had played in the formation of the state.

In contrast, he expressed deep reservations about the Congress party's approach, characterizing it as prioritizing the enrichment of its own coffers through corrupt practices. He referred to the party's 'Sankalp Patra' (manifesto) as contrasting starkly with the 'jhooth ka pulinda' (bird of falsehood), indicating the vast disparity in their respective approaches to governance.

PM Modi went on to draw attention to recent developments within the Congress-led Chhattisgarh government, suggesting that they had been diligent in exploiting opportunities for financial gain at the expense of the public. He referenced a recent operation in Raipur, wherein a substantial sum of currency notes had been seized. There were widespread assertions that this money was connected to individuals involved in gambling and betting activities.

Furthermore, PM Modi underscored the prevalence of reports in the media that implied a connection between the seized money and various Congress leaders. He emphasized the significance of establishing accountability and transparency regarding these alleged connections, urging the state government and Chief Minister Baghel to elucidate the nature of their associations with individuals in Dubai who stood accused in connection with the scandal.

Addressing the crowd, PM Modi acknowledged the prevalent trend of Congress leaders resorting to abusing him and the country's investigation agencies, thereby casting aspersions on the integrity of these institutions. However, he conveyed his unshakable resolve, affirming that he was not daunted by these allegations and that he remained dedicated to fulfilling his mandate of addressing corruption.

Continuing with his discourse, PM Modi assured the people of Chhattisgarh that concrete action would be undertaken to hold accountable those who had plundered the state. He pledged a comprehensive and rigorous investigation into the various scams that had eroded public trust during the tenure of the current government, vowing to ensure that those responsible for the misappropriation of public funds would face legal consequences, including incarceration.

Moreover, Union Minister Smriti Irani also weighed in on the controversy, directing her focus towards Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and the allegations that he had received kickbacks exceeding Rs 500 crore. She underscored the gravity of the situation and contended that never before in the history of elections had such compelling evidence been brought to the public's attention. She characterized Baghel's actions as having engaged in the "game of betting while being in power," casting a shadow over his tenure in office.

In response, Chief Minister Baghel deflected the allegations, pointing fingers at the BJP and accusing them of leveraging central investigation agencies to target him on the eve of the forthcoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh. This counter-allegation prompted a spirited rejoinder from Union Minister Irani, who drew attention to the fact that the ED's probe was based on the outcomes of investigations conducted by the police in Chhattisgarh, as well as Andhra Pradesh. She posed a pointed question, inquiring whether Baghel was implicating his own government in this complex matter.
