Ashfaq Aslam, an individual accused of the heinous crimes of kidnapping, raping, and ultimately murdering a 5-year-old girl in Kerala's Ernakulam district, has been declared guilty in this deeply distressing case.
The verdict was handed down by Ernakulam POCSO Court Judge K Soman, marking a significant milestone in the legal proceedings. The forthcoming phase in this case involves determining the quantum of punishment, with the hearing for this purpose scheduled for November 9.
The prosecution presented a compelling case, resulting in the defendant, Asfaq Aslam, being found guilty on all 16 charges brought against him. In light of this harrowing crime, a request for capital punishment for the accused has been made.
Tragically, on July 28, a 5-year-old girl from a migrant family was cruelly abducted by Asfaq Alam. Her lifeless body was discovered tightly bound within a sack, callously discarded in a swampy area located behind a local marketplace near Aluva on the following morning. Prior to her tragic demise, she had endured the horrors of rape and torture.
It is noteworthy that the police had managed to expedite the investigative process, successfully filing the chargesheet within a mere 30 days of the initial incident. The subsequent trial moved swiftly, concluding in just 26 days following the submission of the chargesheet. Ultimately, the verdict was issued on the 100th day since the tragic crime had been committed, bringing some semblance of closure and justice to this deeply unsettling case.
