180 kg of marijuana valued at Rs 15 lakh were found in a pick-up truck in Siliguri

In a recent operation conducted by the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF), a substantial haul of contraband was intercepted on Friday in Siliguri, West Bengal. The STF team successfully seized a significant quantity of ganja, also known as cannabis, weighing 180 kilograms and estimated to be valued at Rs 15 lakh. This enforcement action unfolded on National Highway 10 near Bengal Safari in Siliguri, where a pick-up van coming from Bengal's Cooch Behar and en route to Bihar was intercepted and thoroughly examined.

The STF's intervention was prompted by a credible tip-off, leading them to intercept the aforementioned pick-up van. Following a meticulous search, the law enforcement officials discovered the illicit cargo of ganja hidden within the vehicle. The driver of the van, identified as Ajijul Haque, aged 46, was promptly apprehended in connection with the smuggling operation.

Upon further investigation and questioning, Ajijul Haque revealed that he had been entrusted with the task of transporting a considerable quantity of cannabis by a ganja dealer located in Kotwali, Cooch Behar. His intended destination for the delivery was Bihar, marking a significant cross-border nexus in the illegal drug trade.

In response to this illicit activity, a case has been formally registered at the Bhaktinagar Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This legal action underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to curb the menace of drug trafficking, as they work diligently to bring those involved in such activities to justice. The comprehensive efforts of the STF in intercepting the contraband and making a lawful arrest contribute to the ongoing battle against the illicit drug trade in the region.
