"I was in love and didn't know he was married": a woman who claims the son of a bureaucrat ran her over

In the aftermath of the disturbing incident that unfolded near a hotel in Thane, Maharashtra, on December 11, Priya Singh, a 26-year-old woman, who purportedly fell victim to a hit-and-run orchestrated by Ashwajit Gaikwad, the son of bureaucrat Anil Gaikwad, has come forward with her side of the story. Priya asserted that she and Ashwajit were romantically involved and deeply in love, and she was completely unaware of his marital status.

In her statement to news agency ANI, Priya shared the complexities of her relationship with Ashwajit, emphasizing her ignorance regarding his marital ties. She revealed that when she eventually discovered his marital status, Ashwajit allegedly assured her that he and his wife had separated, expressing a desire to marry Priya. She claimed to have been in a cohabiting relationship with him for an extended period.

The narrative takes a tumultuous turn when Priya goes to meet Ashwajit one night and discovers him in the company of his wife. Shocked and distressed, she attempted to confront him, leading to a heated altercation. Priya recounted that the confrontation escalated, resulting in a physical altercation.

Describing the severity of her injuries, Priya detailed that three bones in her right leg were fractured, necessitating surgical intervention. She disclosed deep injuries extending from her left shoulder to her hips, rendering her unable to move her body effectively. Despite her ordeal, Priya asserted that when she initially attempted to file a First Information Report (FIR) four days prior, no action was taken. It was only after she publicized the incident on social media that the police extended support.

Priya's legal representative, Darshana Pawar, expressed concern about the adequacy of the charges recorded, citing the severity of the injuries. According to Pawar, Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code, of attempted murder, should have been applied, along with Section 356. The legal team has repeatedly requested the authorities to include these sections in the case, but as of now, it remains unaddressed. Priya's lawyer warned that if necessary actions are not taken promptly, they may have no choice but to approach the High Court for intervention.

Meanwhile, Ashwajit Gaikwad, in response to Priya's accusations, has vehemently denied all allegations, dismissing the incident as an attempt to extort money. Sources indicate that he contests the entire narrative presented by Priya, framing the situation as a baseless scheme to tarnish his reputation.
