After an exhaustive 21-year pursuit, the Preventive Crime Branch (PCB) team of Surat Police successfully apprehended a murder suspect, Mohammed Umar alias Amar Abdul Rasheed Ansari. Employing a covert strategy, the police officers assumed the roles of tempo drivers, spending seven days in the highly sensitive areas of Jharkhand. This operation culminated in the arrest of Ansari.
The arrested suspect disclosed during interrogation that in May 2003, he, along with his accomplice Mehraj Ali, had engaged in a fatal altercation with a man named Dayashankar Shivcharan Gupta. Following the confrontation, they compelled Gupta to consume alcohol and subsequently murdered him. To conceal the victim's identity, they burned his face before fleeing the scene, leading to the registration of a case against the duo.
The initiative to apprehend fugitive suspects was part of a broader effort, with Senior Police Officer Ajay Kumar Tomar overseeing the collection and analysis of relevant data. The PCB team received credible information about Ansari residing in Wasseypur, Jharkhand's Dhanbad district. Subsequently, a team was dispatched to effect the arrest.
In the year 2023 alone, the PCB police have achieved notable success, capturing a total of 22 suspects evading the law for over a decade. Among these apprehensions, 16 individuals were wanted in connection with murder cases.
