In an official communication addressed to all states, the Union Home Ministry has declared a one-day state mourning on Sunday to honor the passing of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who died at the age of 86.
The Union Home Ministry specified that during the designated period of state mourning on December 17, the national flag will be flown at half-mast in all locations where it is regularly hoisted across India. Additionally, it was emphasized that there will be a suspension of official entertainment activities on this day.
The communication conveyed, "His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait, passed away on December 16, 2023. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the government of India has decided that there will be one day of state mourning on December 17."
The directive further outlined the symbolic gesture of lowering the national flag and the observance of a solemn atmosphere, refraining from official entertainment on the specified day.
