On Sunday night in Wilmington, Delaware, a car collided with a parked SUV that was part of the motorcade for US President Joe Biden. This incident occurred as President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden were leaving the Biden-Harris 2024 campaign headquarters, following a visit.
It is noteworthy that both President Biden and the First Lady emerged unharmed from the collision. According to the White House press pool report, the collision happened after the Bidens had left the campaign headquarters amid heavy rain in downtown Wilmington. They had just concluded a meal with members of the re-election team.
As President Biden was walking from the campaign office to his SUV, a sedan collided with a US Secret Service vehicle that was positioned to close off intersections near the campaign headquarters for the President's departure. The sedan attempted to enter a closed-off intersection, prompting Secret Service personnel to surround the SUV and instruct the driver to exit.
In response to the collision, President Biden appeared surprised by the sound before being quickly ushered into the vehicle, where the First Lady was already seated. Subsequently, the Bidens were driven away from the site of the collision.
The silver sedan involved in the collision sustained damage to its bumper, and the driver was swiftly surrounded by security officers, as depicted in multiple videos circulating on social media. Security agents approached the car with drawn arms, and the driver, looking confused, raised his hands.
Despite the incident, there were no reported disruptions to President Biden's schedule for the rest of the day, as per the Associated Press.
