After leaving the BJP, former Tamil actor Gayathri Raghuram joins the AIADMK

Gayathri Raghuram, a former Tamil actor and choreographer who transitioned into politics, recently made the decision to switch from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). This move occurred in a ceremony held in Chennai, where she joined the AIADMK in the presence of party general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami on Friday.

Gayathri, who previously led the cultural wing of the BJP in the state, faced a setback in November 2022 when she was relieved of her position after expressing concerns related to a recorded phone conversation. The recording captured BJP leader Trichy Suriya using unparliamentary language with a female colleague, as reported by India Today TV.

Following her removal, Gayathri took the decision to leave the BJP, citing the party's lack of respect for women and placing blame on state BJP chief K Annamalai for her departure. In a statement after leaving the BJP, she mentioned becoming the target of trolling by a "War Room" associated with Annamalai.

Expressing her discontent, Gayathri wrote on social media in January last year, "I have taken the decision with a heavy heart to resign from TNBJP for not being given the opportunity for an inquiry, equal rights, and respect for women. Under Annamalai's leadership, women are not safe. I feel better being trolled as an outsider."

It's noteworthy that before entering the realm of politics, Gayathri Raghuram had established herself as an actor and choreographer in the Tamil film industry.
