Delhi Election Office confirms on viral tentative date, saying it is only a reference to officials


Issuing a clarification regarding the widely circulated letter containing a tentative date for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Delhi office of the Chief Electoral Officer emphasized that the mentioned date served solely as a "reference" for officials. The letter, directed to various concerned authorities, suggested that April 16 could be the tentative date for the upcoming Loksabha elections.

In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, the election office clarified that the indicated date was 'tentative' and was included "only for reference to officials planning activities as per Election Planner of the Election Commission of India."

The circular originating from the Chief Electoral Officer's office in New Delhi sparked discussions on social media, as it initially mentioned April 16 as the election date in the planner devised by the Election Commission of India. However, subsequent clarification highlighted that the purpose of specifying the date was to assist electoral officials in planning and executing tasks promptly, aligning with the ECI's Election Planner.

The clarification underscored that the existing election schedule is not contingent on this tentative date, and the official timetable will be unveiled by the ECI at the appropriate juncture. It further elucidated that the lead-up to the Lok Sabha Election 2024 involves the meticulous planning and execution of various election-related activities.

The statement emphasized that a majority of these activities are the responsibility of district-level officials, such as district election officers or returning officers. The letter in question, dated January 19, was issued to sensitize and guide these officials in preparation for the upcoming electoral processes.
