Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a fresh swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over comments made during the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' rally in the northeastern state. Sarma, in response to Rahul Gandhi's speech in Dhubri where he discussed making tea with "coal on a stove," shared a clip and expressed bewilderment at the unconventional analogy. In a tweet, Sarma remarked, "We were just getting over the idea of you making gold from potatoes when you put coal in the stove and left us confused. Are you out of your mind?"
During a rally in Dhubri, Rahul Gandhi targeted the Assam Chief Minister, accusing him of being the "most corrupt" in the country. Rahul alleged that Himanta Sarma has stakes in various aspects of citizens' lives, ranging from morning tea preparations to media consumption. The Congress leader claimed that profits from coal, tea plantations, newspapers, and television channels all benefit the Assam Chief Minister.
Tensions between the Assam state leadership and the Congress MP have escalated during the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' particularly since entering Assam after Manipur. The yatra, covering 14 states in around two months, faced incidents of violence, clashes with Assam Police, barricade breaking, and an FIR against Rahul Gandhi for alleged incitement of violence and deviation from the approved route set by the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government. The ongoing verbal sparring reflects the heightened political discord between the two leaders during the yatra's activities in Assam.
