On Sunday, the Karnataka Police took into custody two additional individuals in connection with the Haveri gang rape-moral policing incident that transpired on January 7th. The newly apprehended suspects have been identified as Imran Bashir Zakinakatti and Rehan Mohammad Hussain Walekar. According to law enforcement, one of the accused was apprehended in Bankapur, while the other was detained in the Davangere area.
With these recent arrests, the total number of individuals in police custody in this case has reached six. The genesis of this incident occurred when a woman in Karnataka's Haveli district lodged a complaint, asserting that she had been subjected to gang rape by several men while staying in a hotel with her partner.
As per the woman's account, the perpetrators forcibly removed her from the room and took her to a location near a river, where she was subjected to physical assault. She further alleged that the men took turns raping her and subsequently transported her to the city in a car, where the driver also assaulted her.
In her formal complaint, the woman accused the men of verbally abusing and assaulting both her and her partner within the confines of the hotel room before the gang rape. Following the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused individuals, invoking various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including but not limited to Section 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting), 448 (house-trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 354(b) (compelling a woman to be naked), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation).
As of the time of reporting, a total of six individuals have been arrested in connection with this case. Ongoing investigations are being conducted to delve further into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
