In the unfortunate incident that unfolded in Telangana's Jogulamba Gadwal district, a female passenger met a tragic end, succumbing to burns, while another traveler sustained minor injuries when a private bus en route to Chittoor overturned and caught fire. The local authorities reported that the distressing event transpired on a Saturday at 3 am, involving the Jagan Amazon travel bus on its journey from Hyderabad to Chittoor.
The mishap unfolded when the bus driver, fatigued and falling asleep, lost control of the vehicle, resulting in its overturning and subsequent ignition, as detailed by the police. Swift action by passengers allowed most of them to disembark safely. Regrettably, one woman found herself unable to exit as her hand became trapped, leading to her unfortunate demise as the flames engulfed both her and the bus.
The identity of the deceased woman remains unknown at present, and law enforcement has initiated a case, with ongoing investigations to ascertain further details.
It is noteworthy to mention that a recent report from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, dated November 2023, revealed a decrease in the overall number of road accidents in Telangana from 22,230 in 2018 to 21,619 in 2022. However, the concerning aspect was the rise in road fatalities, with the death toll climbing to 3,010 in 2022, reflecting a substantial 45.8 percent increase from the 2,064 fatalities recorded in 2018 for five years.
