Respect the sovereignty of 'brotherly' Pakistan, but...: Iran's invasion on Balochistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian defended the airstrikes conducted by Iran in Balochistan, Pakistan, stating that the attack on Jaish ul-Adl targets was in alignment with the security interests of its neighboring country. Amir-Abdollahian characterized Pakistan as a "brotherly country" and emphasized that the drones and missiles employed did not target any Pakistani nationals.

This statement came in the context of Pakistan's assertion that the attack on two Jaish ul-Adl bases in Balochistan resulted in the death of two children and injuries to three others.

Amir-Abdollahian disclosed that he had discussions with his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani regarding the attacks and assured him that, "We do respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan and also those of Iraq, but we don't allow our national security to be compromised."

Pakistan, reacting to the airstrikes, labeled them as an "unprovoked violation" of its airspace and responded by recalling its ambassador to Iran. Additionally, the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, presently in Iran, was instructed not to return for the time being.

Amir-Abdollahian argued that the missiles and drones were specifically targeting "Iranian terrorists" on Pakistani soil, pointing to the presence of a group affiliated with Daesh, namely Jaish ul-Adl, in the Sistan-Balochistan province of Pakistan. He contended that this group had taken refuge in parts of Pakistan and was responsible for the killing of Iranian security personnel, justifying the retaliatory nature of the attack.

The Foreign Minister asserted that Iran had no reservations in addressing terrorist groups within Pakistan, including those linked to the Israeli regime. According to Amir-Abdollahian, the actions taken were in line with the security interests not only of Pakistan but also of Iraq and the broader region.
