On Thursday, Sheikh Hasina officially took the oath for her fourth consecutive term as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, a few days after her Awami League party achieved a resounding victory in the general elections. Notably, the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies chose to boycott the elections.
The swearing-in ceremony, administered by President Mohammad Shahabuddin, witnessed the participation of various dignitaries, including politicians, foreign diplomats, civil society figures, and senior civil and military officials. Following the prime minister's oath, the president proceeded to administer the oath of office to the new members of the cabinet.
Sheikh Hasina's Awami League secured a remarkable 223 seats out of the 300-member Parliament. The major opposition BNP, led by ex-prime minister Khaleda Zia, decided to boycott the elections after their plea for a non-party caretaker government to oversee the polls on January 7 was turned down.
