Hailey Clifton-Carmack, a 26-year-old school teacher in Missouri, has been arrested on felony charges stemming from an alleged romantic involvement with a 16-year-old student. The purported incidents occurred on the school campus, and additional students are reported to have served as "lookouts."
Subsequently, fearing arrest, she left Missouri but was later traced to Texas and taken into custody. The 26-year-old, who taught mathematics at Laquey High School in Pulaski County, Missouri, is now facing a comprehensive array of charges, including statutory rape, sexual contact with a student, child molestation, and endangering the welfare of a child.
The revelation of this relationship came to light when another student reported it to authorities after being shown photos of scratches on the victim's back, allegedly caused by Clifton-Carmack, as reported by the Independent.
According to court documents, school employees, including the principal, were aware of the teacher's behavior before the reports surfaced.
In December 2023, police obtained a search warrant to examine Clifton-Carmack's phone. Despite her initial cooperation, she later refused to provide her password. Eventually, the police bypassed the phone's electronic security, revealing conversations between the teacher and the student discussing their relationship.
Following the discovery of the relationship, the student's father, Mark Creighton, faced charges of first-degree child endangerment, as he allegedly had prior knowledge of the inappropriate relationship. He was picked up by the police on January 3.
The Laquey school district issued a statement, noting that the accused Clifton-Carmack had not been in the district since December 8, 2023.
After Clifton-Carmack fled Missouri to avoid arrest, she was tracked down in Texas. The local police in Garden Ridge, Texas, announced her arrest on social media, stating that she was apprehended on a warrant for multiple charges. Clifton-Carmack is currently awaiting extradition back to Missouri from Comal County Jail in Texas.
