The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reportedly contemplating a significant overhaul by replacing nearly half of its current Members of Parliament (MPs) in Karnataka, as per information from sources disclosed to India Today TV. Among the prominent names speculated for replacement is the former Union minister Sadananda Gowda, suggesting a potential change in representation for his constituency.
Sources indicate that several constituencies are earmarked for the introduction of new faces, potentially replacing existing MPs. The list includes constituencies such as Ganga-Haveri, Bangalore North, Bellary, Raichur, Belgaum, Bijapur, Mandya, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, Davangere, Tumkur, and Koppal.
This strategic decision to replace sitting MPs is believed to be rooted in addressing various concerns, including factors such as advancing age, subpar performance during the previous term, and the ever-present challenge of anti-incumbency.
It's worth noting that these developments are unfolding in anticipation of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In a notable move from November, the BJP appointed BY Vijayendra, the son of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, as the new chief of the party's Karnataka unit, succeeding Nalin Kumar Kateel.
